1. What is website hosting, and what does the monthly price include?
Standard Business Website Hosting is £15 per month, and eCommerce Website Hosting is £30 per month. Website hosting provides the technologies and services needed for your website to be viewed in the Internet. Every website has to be hosted to exist. Think of it like your rental space on the web for your website. However, Pure Cornish Design website hosting includes even more than that. Every Pure Cornish Design website will also include:
CMS (Content Management System)
This is a platform that allows you to have a login/password and easily edit and manage your own website! You can change, remove and add text, images, videos and much more! You will receive a tutorial on how to use the CMS once your website is live.
SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)
Your website will also be setup with Organic SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) so your website is setup ready to be found by search engines. This is done by creating meta keywords, page descriptions, sitemaps, links to social media, ensuring you have good content, and more. If you want to push your website higher into search engine results, then there are other paid SEO options that we can discuss - Just ask!
SSL Certificate (Secure Sockets Layer)
Every website also includes an SSL Certificate. This proves to search engines that your website is safe and secure to visit. In July 2018 it became mandatory for every website to have an SSL Certificate, and if you do not, your website is likely to be marked as 'Not Secure' to visit. Check to the left of your web address bar, there should be a closed padlock that when hovered on reads 'Connection is Secure'.
Help/Support
I will always be on hand to offer help/support with your website. Should you not feel comfortable making certain changes/amends and would like me to do some work on your website for you, I will always be happy to schedule this in. This will be charged at my flat rate of £30 per hour. Get in touch for an accurate quote.
2. What is a domain? and why do I need to buy it myself?
Your domain is your web address. For example, mine is www.purecornishdesign.com. This is the address people will visit your website at. The reason I ask my clients to purchase their own, is because then they will always then retain control of it. If a web designer registers and manages the domain for them on their own account, and the client then decides to later change web designers and/or create a new website - They are then beholden to the original web designer either transferring the domain to your own account, or continuing to host the domain for you (Which is unlikely if you are taking your web design business elsewhere!), long story short, it protects your ownership of your business website address and makes everything a lot easier for potential changes in the future.
3. Where do I buy my domain from?
I recommend buying domains from GoDaddy. I can help/give instructions on how to purchase.
4. Should I have a professional Email?
You have two options when creating an email address/multiple email addresses for your business. You can either create a free account (eg. [email protected]), or you can pay for a professional email account (eg. [email protected]). Which option you choose really depends on your budget. Free email accounts are of course free, and I personally feel as long as they are in keeping with the business name, then for small businesses and sole traders that don't have a big marketing budget this is perfectly acceptable. Should you want to push and expand your business, a professional email may be better suited. These can cost from £3-£10 per month dependant on which storage plan you choose. I would again recommend to purchase this through GoDaddy. This also then ensures your email and domain are in the same place which makes renewals and managing the account/settings much easier.
